Great Central Railway

This railway was the last mainline railway to be built. It ran from London to Nottingham. Sadly it was the first to be closed. Thankfully part of the Great Central Railway survives today running as a heritage line between Leicester and Loughborough. Recently part of the eight miles of track has been doubled and it is an exciting experience when two steam hauled trains pass each other. You can find lots of information about this railway at   www.gcrailway.co.uk  My pictures were taken on the 1st & 2nd January 2006.

The locomotives operating were BR Standard 78019 and GCR 63601.
