Higham Ferrers, Northants (55 images)

Higham Ferrers was granted 'borough status' way back in 1251 on the application of William De Ferrers. It was approved by Henry III. The name Higham is from the Saxon word 'Hecham' which means 'Settlement on a Hill'. The town held a good position overlooking the River Nene and served by the London to Leicester trunk road. My walk took place on a lovely chilly January day in 2006.   ....I was lucky to get access to the church and I would like to thank the lady who took me on a guided tour for all the information and the tour leaflet of the town.
