PITSFORD RESERVOIR WILD BIRDS . Northamptonshire.
January 8th 2007. The breeze was quite cold as it drifted
across the Reservoir and I found it quite a challenge trying to hold
a slice of bread in one hand and my Nikon Coolpix 2100 camera in the
other. Up to 20 gulls at a time swooped towards my breaded hand,
hell were they hungry, bit worrying really as they could have taken
a finger ! I must admit it was a thrilling experience having these
wild birds so close. While feeding the gulls I had a young swan
tugging at my trousers as much to say 'Hey, how about me'. Many of
the birds are quite tame. The one you see that I am feeding actually
allows you to stroke it's neck. That picture was taken by my pal
Ernie.
There must have been a few hundred gulls on this day. We
returned the following day with video cameras only to find about
forty gulls and not one flew to get the bread in hand.
I am quite pleased with the pictures considering how close the
birds were and the speed that there wings were moving. The camera
setting was on 'sports'. |
