THIRSK. Yorkshire

 

Thirsk is a wonderful traditional North Yorkshire market town and is best known as the home to the author James Herriot. His house and surgery have now been converted into an award winning Museum and Visitor Attraction.

 Thomas Lord the founder of Lord Cricket ground was also born in Thirsk in 1755. His birth place is now Thirsk Museum.

Thirsk is a market town with a cobbled market square. The town clock dominates the market square and many shops retain their original frontages.

The Cod Beck River flows through the town and children can enjoy feeding the water fowl.. The racecourse holds several race meetings each year.
