Welcome. This was my fourth visit to Lynmouth which
became front page news in 1952 when heavy rain over Exmoor caused a torrent of
water to crash down the valleys and flood the village. Many buildings were
washed out into the sea and over thirty people died. One can reach Lynmouth on the
A39 road down a steep 1 in 4 hill, or by the cliff
railway on a 500 foot drop from Lynton. This was opened in
1890. A wonderful piece of
engineering for the time. |
