At this time I had started 'Tapesponding'  (for an explanation of the term, see 'Video Pals'). June also took an interest in this and as I did my recording in the bedroom it was a great opportunity for us to be alone!! I can remember a Sunday afternoon, my dear mum coming up the stairs saying "cup a tea for you". Bless her, she was really keeping an eye on us.

Coach trips came in to our life at this time. Cycling club members and Co-op customers used to go on Coach Tours that we organised. We used Roydon Motors  who were based in John Street, Wellingborough. They had a beautiful pink and white Bella Vega luxury coach, this was driven by a guy we called Curly. A full day tour to Ladybower Dam in Derbyshire or to Llangollen and the Horseshoe pass in North Wales, cost around fourteen shillings (70 new pence in today's money).
This included a tip for the driver and a raffle. This picture shows our coach party at Southend when we had a trip to see the Illuminations.

With a wedding day in sight I had to get some money together and as during my past 20-25 years, I had always taken great interest in what my father did, I set to and went out interior decorating in my spare time. I would wallpaper a room for £8.00. I managed to scrape up £150 to £200 to afford for June and I to tie the knot at Earls Barton Baptist Church on 15th February 1964.

We took up residence in a Co-op flat at the town-end of Oxford Street, above the then, Co-op Cake Shop and Co-op Coal Office. The building still stands today, next to Morrisons and opposite Mobile Radio - Clarks Electrical store.

The flat consisted of a large kitchen-diner, large lounge, bedroom and toilet-bathroom. The rent was 37p in today's money and the rates (council tax) were a similar amount.

We stayed for six months until Ray Phillips the Co-op general manager let us rent the house we own today. It is a large 3 bedroom terrace and our first weeks rent was £1 and the rates were 75p
