Whilst I was in Germany my parents moved to Northamptonshire, where they were born and raised. My father was born in Ringstead and started his working life driving Traction Engines for Grundy's of Kettering, Northants. Mum was born in Raunds, Northants. Once married, they set up home at Back Lane, Denford, Northants . My dad was never at home as the dredging work took him all over England and Ireland. He and his gang made the large lake at Blatherwycke just off the A43 Corby to Stamford road. The picture immediately below was taken at Blatherwyke in about 1932.

My parents moved to Leagrave, Bedfordshire in 1937 where my dad worked at the Sundon Cement Works. They lived there until 1957, up to the time I left the Royal Air Force, before moving to Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. On completing my National Service Duty I was just twenty years old and was about to start a new life living with Mum and Dad in our new home in Butts Road, Wellingborough.

Wellingborough is a market town situated on a hill overlooking the Nene Valley. The valley is rich in sand and gravel, a lot of which has been excavated. This has turned meadows in to lakes and has created some lovely scenery & walks (see photo on the left). To see more images of Wellingborough, click on 'Pictorial Walks'.

I reside very close to the town centre in a large terraced house. I am lucky to have friends
who run a hotel close by. So if you would like to visit them, click on to their web site at www.columbia-hotel.co.uk
